My client is the only company in the world to specialise in the design and manufacture of high-quality remote-controlled spotlights. Their patented technology allows spotlights on high ceilings to be focused from floor level. No need for the cost, delays and dangers associated with the use of long ladders, scaffolding and mechanical lifts. Spotlights can be individually aimed and dimmed by non-technical staff using a simple hand-held controller.
RCL products are ideal for hotel ballrooms, banqueting suites, art galleries, museums and store windows. Wherever spotlights are installed on high or inaccessible structures. The company are currently turning over around 5m per year are now looking for another Electronics Engineer to join their team. You will be working on the development of control systems for motorised lighting products.
PCB design/layout, writing software in C running on PIC microcon-trollers for motor and dimming control of LED driver circuitry, implementation of communications protocols (DALI/DMX), Hand assembly of SMT boards for prototyping as well as building proto-typing and test equipment. Writing of Python applications for testing and maintenance. Organising prototyping parts stock, issuing of Gerber files to PCB manufacturers and as-assemblers, as well as the organisation of the electronics lab and working with the design team in assembling new products for test. The historical standard technology for RCL (Remote Controlled Lighting) consists of a dedicated handheld controller which consists of a laser pointer identifier and an infra-red communications medium.
The controller can allow for programming and scene recall. Targeting of the lighting beam projection is achieved by means of a pan motor and a tilt motor. Dimming of the lighting is also possible, as will in future, a zooming function to narrow or widen the beam angle as required by the application.
